Gail, as were many Americans, was very shook up by the events of 9/11. She is the type of artists who deals with overwhelming emotional issues through her artwork. When she sat down to paint this piece, she wanted to show the dichotomy that was 9/11. On hand, we, as Americans, were shocked and outraged by the attacks on our nation and our sovereignty, and dismayed by the loss of so many of our fellow citizens. On the other hand, there were those around the world who applauded the attacks loudly and proudly, proclaiming bin Laden to be a hero for attacking the “Great Satan”. As you study this painting, keep in mind it is not a tribute to bin Laden; it is tribute to those Americans who died on 9/11 and a condemnation of the man we hated but many people called “Father.”

This nude, done in oils, is another one of those that would more accurately be described as “pop art”. It was inspired by a series of black white photos of the famous Swedish actress Anita Ekberg. I once had an 80 year old cowboy turning this picture in every direction; he just could not see the nudes in it. He walked away mumbling something about being too old to understand modern art.
